Major John Andre is a Major in the British army, and loyal to the Crown, and shows so, by attempting to convince Benedict Arnold to join the loyalist cause, in exchange for a high ranking position, and commission in the British army. Arnold, still frustrated with the Continental congress, agreed to join his cause.
